Frank Janca was born in Mississippi and studied at the Arts Student's League in New York. The total focus of his life has been on the rediscovery of the vision and techniques of the Renaissance masters and his works embody such meticulous techniques with a sensitive and modern vision. Janca insists on absolute personal involvement in every aspect of his painting - he grinds his own pigments by hand, cooks his own oil mediums, underpaints the carefully prepared canvas in grisaille and then glazes the images dramatically with rich jewelled colours. Along with his perception and maturity, Janca's hard work and perseverance have led to his work being recognised and collected in countries as diverse as Britain, the United States, France and Japan.
